One of the best surprises here in the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains is the level of professionalism that exists in the arts, music, theater, and dance. The valley has always been home to music from country to bluegrass to jazz and more. Jam sessions are alive all over the valley including the Thursday night at O’Hurley’s General Store in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. There will be a dozen or more musicians playing their dulcimer, banjo, guitar, fiddle, Celtic harp, flute and a variety of other instruments. Everyone who shows up with an instrument participates.
The valley is also alive with theater from the American musical to Shakespeare. Art and Antique galleries are in every small town. Take a road trip to Patsy Cline's hometown of Winchester. Experience the diverse international culture of the Shenandoah Valley. Enjoy the surprising sophistication.
