Based on the true story and life of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger: Rudy’s (Sean Astin) biggest dream is to play football at the University of Notre Dame, which is heavily influenced by his Catholic working class family who worship the University’s football team. But with a small stature, no money, and a reading disability, it would seem that all odds are against him. Instead, Rudy follows his father and brother into the steel mill to work a job he doesn’t want. When his best friend, Pete (Christopher Reed), dies in an accident, this serves as the wake up call Rudy needs to get him out of the door and on his way to achieving his dreams.
With the encouragement of a priest, a tutor (Jon Favreau), some new coworkers, and even the Notre Dame football team, Rudy finds the confidence he needed all along to achieve his greatest dreams. Rudy teaches the invaluable lesson that even though you may be small, you can still get to where you want to be with hard work and a positive outlook on life. The story of Rudy is inspiring to many, and is a heartwarming film you’ll want to watch over and over again.
GoBRT, along with Bucket from the Shenandoah Valley Kids Trail, hope to see you there!
