Mackintosh Fruit Farm: A Best-Kept Lunch Secret

Mackintosh Fruit Farm is a best-kept lunch secret in Berryville, VA. This farm is more than just a farm however; they host many events every month during their open season. This blog will be dedicated to the tasty events that this gem of a farm has in store for August as well as through the fall season. Make sure to stop in for lunch or to pick your own fruits and veggies!

The farm is open Wednesday – Sunday, 8 am – 6 pm

History of the Farm

Mackintosh Fruit Farm Main BuildingMackintosh Fruit Farm is a family owned pick-your-own farm that has been around since 1988. Starting with Apple and Peach trees, Bill and Lori Mackintosh eventually expanded their varieties of fruit trees, added berries, and also vegetables. They have created a process to keep trees short so even the kiddos can pick from them and it actually makes the fruit larger and tastier! They are also unique because they have multiple products that become ripe in different times of the year.

Now that you know a little bit about this farm, let’s dive in to some of the great events that they have coming up in August that we suggest you check out!

Lunch on the Farm

What few people may know is that Mackintosh Fruit Farm is a lunch destination for the Frederick and Clarke County areas. Preparing dishes from what they are currently growing makes for a uniquely fresh experience. You also have the exquisite views from the farm to the mountains thanks to the open pavilion that their main building has to offer.Their menu consists of many fan favorites, but their is also some added flair in their sides, drinks, and especially the sweets!

Farm Dinner

From June through October on a selected Saturday, Mackintosh Fruit Farm hosts a Farm Dinner that feature homemade menu items made from their own, in season fruits and vegetables. This is one of the reasons we love Mackintosh Fruit Farm so much. They are demonstrating how locally sourced, farm to table is a win for everyone. In August, the next Farm Dinner is August 4th from 7 pm – 9 pm. I’ll list the menu below and see if this doesn’t make your mouth water!

Veggie Gazpacho
Salad with grilled peaches and feta
Chicken Ratatouille
Raspberry peach crumble

And if you were thinking these events are just for adults, you’d be wrong! Kids are certainly welcome; ages 6-12 are $20 and children 5 and under are free. Adult tickets are $40 and they reserve only 50 spots. You’re encouraged to get your tickets as soon as possible as they have been selling out fast!

Peach Festival- August 11th

Make sure to mark your calendars to celebrate all things peaches! On August 11th from 8 am – 6 pm stop by the farm for this free to attend event. All you have to do is pay for what you pick and for any produce and goods in the market.

Peaches are one of Mackintosh’s specialties and this festival is to showcase their prized produce! Here’s what Mackintosh has to say on what sets their peaches and other produce apart at this time of year. “We have over twenty varieties of peach to make this possible. In the peak of our season, mid August, we will be picking berries, peaches, apples, pluots, along with our expanded vegetable acreage.”

This great event is sure to be fun for the whole family and there’s nothing better than going out and picking your own peaches that are at the peak of ripeness!

Honey Bee Day- Aug. 18th

Mackintosh Fruit Farm Honey BeesAugust 18th is the day to celebrate the honeybee and all of the fine work they do with Mackintosh Fruit Farm. In the past they have had tours and demonstrations at their apiary on the farm. They will be posting a full schedule of events closer to the time of the event. For the event they will obviously have honey for sale and some yummy desserts!

Is there a better event to take the kiddos to before they head back to school? Learning and yummy treats, sounds like a trip to me!

This event is free to attend and honey will be available to purchase in the market! This event will also run from 8 am – 6 pm.

This farm is a must visit during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. Mackintosh is more than just the tasty fruits, veggies, and berries they produce, they also give you the unforgettable experience you can have while at the farm. They also have expanded their events to attract more people to the farm for more than just picking. Make sure to reserve your spot at one of the next farm dinners or stop in for lunch!
