Let’s think out of the box this year and make Mom’s day outstanding. You know although Mom’s are older we are NOT old in mind or spirit. So step up to the plate and give your Mom a thrill. Have you ever asked Mom if she has a Bucket List? It might be a good question to ask.

For me personally, I will celebrate next weekend in Atlanta. I have definitely made it clear I am not cooking. The men in our family are going to be responsible for the steaks and fixins. I feel like putting my energies into making a WOW dessert, which is something I have not done for a while. I am reaching back years to a cake that was in Southern Living years ago – Coconut Lemon Cake.

Check out these tempting ideas and make your plans…..

#1 – Take MOM white river rafting

HF Adventure Center along the Potomac River near Harpers Ferry offers FREE admission to MOM with two full paying guests. How about white water rafting, the ropes course (not for a person scared of heights), off course Segway or white water rafting on Sunday, May 8th.  It looks like it will be a beautiful day so pack a picnic or drop by Throx Market for their fabulous Fried Chicken and sides. Then maybe a picnic near Jefferson’s Rock.

#2 – Hiking and Spa Luxury

A lot of Mom’s and Grandmothers love to hike. Here is a romantic blog all about fitness, relaxation, shopping of course, and great food in a beautiful environment. The venue is Hillbrook Inn and Spa in Charles Town, West Virginia.

#3 – All about the Wine

Check out L’Auberge Provencale. Their wine cellar is one of the best in the region.

#4 – Massnutten Resort

Take a beautiful drive or plan an overnight stay at Massanutten Resort. Chef Michael Ritenour does a wonderful job at The Fareway Restaurant and Lounge plus there are free scenic chairlift rides to the top of the peak just for Mom.

Thrill #6 – A Country Tea

Looking for an experience in the greenhouse and a country tea – Back Home on the Farm offers both. This is a perfect event for a mother/daughter or son twosome to share. Reservations requested by Friday. You can enjoy the Greenhouses as well which are filled with wonderful plants.

Thrill #7 – Gift of a Cooking Class

If Mom loves to cook, give her an opportunity to learn great tips from Chef Erik Foxx- Nettnin of Magnolias at the Mill. He will be teaching a class this Tuesday May 10th at Nibblins at Rutherford Crossing. Magnolias at the Mill is offering a brunch from 10 – 3 as well as a four course dinner to celebrate your Wonder Woman.
