Great Holiday Shopping Ideas in the Shenandoah Valley!

With only five days left for your Christmas shopping, here are great ideas. Plus taking a drive thru the Shenandoah Valley is always relaxing and fun!.  Get out of the stress mode, and make your shopping a great adventure for you the shopper.  Stay away from the malls and big stores and off of Interstate 81. Instead take the beautiful scenic side roads and have a great weekend. 

Starting in Loudoun County, two must see vineyards are:   

Bluemont Vineyard is just over the mountain on Route 7 in Loudoun County.  Not only can you select great wines but they have a delightful gift shop as well.  951 feet up the mountain, the view is worth the drive.  While at Bluemont, ask about Great Country Farm’s Fan of the Farm Membership past for the entire family (up to six people) – a great gift idea which includes tastings at Bluemont Vineyard.    

You could also cut across to Hillsboro Route 9 and visit the 868 Estate Vineyards.  This weekend they are offering 2 for 1 tastings and 20% discounts off case purchases. Chef Author serves up steamy, satisfying soup in the Tasting Room which can be paired with a bottle of Meritage. A delightful afternoon with friends.

West Virginia Surprises – leave 868 Estate Vineyards and take Route 671 to Route 340.   

A real surprise would be purchasing a bottle of  Limoncello. The lemons are grown locally here in West Virginia.  Just off of Route 340, is the Bloomery Plantation Distillery has won many awards including two international from Spirits International Prestige Awards.

South on Route 11 – Southern Shenandoah Valley 

Another great direction to go is south on Route 11 or the quick Interstate 81.  The village of Woodstock in Shenandoah County will surprise you.  Not only can you purchase plants and holiday decor, but Fort Valley Nursery has a wonderful gift shop as well. Woodstock Cafe and Shoppes offers one of the best wine selections in the valley voted Best Wine Shoppe in the Shenandoah Valley by Virginia Living Magazine.  Both Fort Valley Nursery and Woodstock Cafe and Shoppes offer lunch.  Plus there are many other unique shoppes in “the Other Woodstock”. 

Hunt Country 

Beautiful countryside, the village of the Plains, Virginia also offers you unique shoppes. If you stay on Route 50, have lunch at The Ashby Inn and Restaurant in Paris, Virginia. Again reservations are suggested. A real supporter of the farmers and artisans, their menus reflect seasonal products available locally.“  A gift certificate to the Inn is a great gift to consider. The follow Route 17 to the Plains, Virginia off of Interstate 66 and Route 55.  The Plains Virginia is a great small village with unique shoppes.  For great artisan finds, visit Live An Artful Lifegallery.  One of the finest galleries supporting USA fine quality artisans, a stop here is a must.
