It’s hot, hot, hot this summer season, and we’re all really feeling the heat ushered in by July. That’s why we’re handpicking places and activities in the Shenandoah Valley that’ll help your family beat the summer heat. From waterparks to fun indoor AC escapes, the Kids Trail is happy to bring you and your family the best spots to hit this July!

The most obvious escape from scorching temperatures is to the water. If your plan is to stay local to the Shenandoah Valley, we’d recommend a waterpark! Massanutten Resort’s award-winning waterpark has so many different amenities within it that you’ll need at least a full day to explore it. Toggle the family between the outdoor and indoor sections, tube down slides, float downstream, and maneuver your way through obstacle courses – oh, and did we mention that there’s an indoor surfing wave rider? Yeah, this one’s a no-brainer. Massanutten Resort Family Friendly

Another spot that’s perfect for families seeking water but not wanting to stray too far from the Valley, there’s Bryce Resort‘s Lake Laura! Complete with a beach, paddle boats and hiking trails, Lake Laura provides the perfect spot to cool off and swim.

Go Where the AC is Cool

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, set in Winchester, Virginia, is such a beautiful space to bring the kids! They’ve got a wide array of art exhibits out right now, a couple of which are entirely geared around awesome family fun. Start outdoors with their new Nature Connects LEGO Exhibit, where you’ll see over 500,000 pieces come together to form out of this world awesome sculptures, then head inside for more inspiring creativity! From deer to people, butterflies, spiders and more, this is one art exhibit every family member will want to see.  MSV LEGO Family Friendly

Next, head indoors for some cool AC and a splash of color from the R. Lee Taylor’s Miniatures Collection. These go far beyond your standard dollhouse, with tons of different themed houses complete with over 4,000 mini objects to accompany them!

The Best of Both Worlds

Here’s an idea: have so much fun that you don’t even think about the hot weather! It sounds impossible when you’ve got buckets of sweat dripping from your face, but it’s very easy to forget the temperature when having at our next destination!  Skyline Paintball Family Friendly

Over at Skyline Paintball & Laser Tag, there’s the awesome option of paintball arenas outdoors and laser tag arenas indoors! You’ve got the best of both worlds here with both an outdoor and indoor option. For those looking to have fun outside on a beautiful July day, paintball is for you! Relay through the ruins set up on the fields and watch your back! For those looking for a cooler alternative, there’s indoor laser tag. Laser tag is guaranteed to be fun every time you do it because it’s just such a unique, niche activity. This option is ideal for families who love a little friendly competition! The games are incredibly immersive and promote laughter and physical exercise at the same time, and unlike paintball, laser tag is 100% mess free. Check out Skyline’s website for a list of their hours and to see if laser tag is for you!

Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a fun, safe time this July in the Shenandoah Valley with these family friendly activities! Remember to stay hydrated!
