Back Home on the Farm

Back Home on the Farm has so many activities you and the little ones can do this fall. This year’s festivities are themed around The Wizard of Oz, a classic family favorite film! “Follow the yellow brick road” through their giant corn maze, experience Jackie’s Believe it or Not exhibit, pig races, zip lines, underground slides, and so much more! You can check out the full list of activities here.

This October, Back Home on the Farm will be featuring their “spook-tacular Glen,” complete with bonfires, moonlight maze fun, and wagon rides. The Enchanted Glen darkens as the days grow shorter. Butterflies fly south, and the wee Farm Faeries work to get ready for long winter nights. Wind chimes still rustle in the branches! Lively scarecrows create slightly spooky shadows in the woods. You’ll find pots of mums, heaps of pumpkins, and a smattering of pretty autumn leaves to delight!

Fall Farm Fun Harrisonburg Mt Crawford CreameryMt Crawford Creamery

This getaway experience is one for the books. Mt. Crawford Creamery allows you to not only pet their cows, but see how all of their products are made. Schedule a tour to get up close and personal at this charming farm, where you’ll learn the history of the farm, get to see the milking parlor, pet the baby calves, and sample their homemade products! This allows your kids to tap into that appreciation for the fresh products they get to eat while having a blast. Give them firsthand experience by seeing where the (And admit it, mom. You want to pet the baby cows, too!)

After touring the creamery, we highly recommend you stock up on some of the products they sell in their store! Choose from a variety of milk, ice cream mix, and everyone’s seasonal favorite… eggnog (November-December)! Afterwards, head over to Smiley’s Ice Cream for a taste of Mt Crawford’s dairy in a sweet cone.

Explore More Discovery Museum

Head on over to the Explore More Discovery Museum, a place where your family can learn, play, interact, and grow. It’s all indoors, so you won’t have to worry about sweating in the afternoon heat! Their interactive exhibits include a TV studio, science lab, dentist’s office, construction zone, farmer’s market, and more!

To keep with the farm spirit, check out their farmer’s market! Cook up a culinary delight in the kitchen, dig for vegetables, select produce at the farmer’s market or pack a healthy lunch! It’s so important that our children learn these vitally important lessons; it’ll help boost their independence and teach them the importance of eating and shopping locally.

We are more than ready to welcome the fall season, especially with these fall farm themed options to explore! Which one will you go do this season? We’ll see you out there!
