There’s something about The Family Drive-In that people just adore – it could be the owner, Jim Kopp, who pours everything he has into running it; it could be the outdoor setting, perfect for vintage lovers and camping enthusiasts; the value of two movies for one price could have something to do with it as well. Maybe it’s the cult concession stand snacks, like their delicious, golden fries. It’s likely a combination of all of those things! Whatever it is, the Drive In continues to bring in crowds from all over the world. This Labor Day weekend, prepare to pull an all-nighter with 5 blockbuster movies showing on each screen.

Be sure to arrive at the Drive-In early this weekend to get a good spot – you’ll be there for a while! The first of the five movies showing on each screen starts at 8 p.m. with the last one starting at 4:20/4:30 a.m., depending on which screen you choose. Screen one is for those who will have little ones with them, with titles like Incredibles 2, Hotel Transylvania 3, Jurassic World, Antman & the Wasp, and Mamma Mia!. Screen two is for those who enjoy a little action with a side of horror: Slenderman, The Meg, Mission Impossible: Fallout, The Equalizer 2, and The Spy Who Dumped Me. Either screen you choose will give you the same result – a healthy dose of movie magic with your loved ones.

The Family Drive-In Theatre was built by the Dalke Family and opened on June 14, 1956. With resume experience of now 62 years, the Drive-In is the only remaining theater operating in the Washington/Northern Virginia area, and one of only 7 in the state of Virginia!

The theater offers many classic features: a playground for the children, original car speakers on speaker poles, music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, as well as “modern” features like digital projection, digital stereo radio sound, and a full line of meals in the concession stand.

One of the best things about this Drive In theater is the food! The concession stand offers all of your standard movie theater items like candy, drinks, and popcorn, and then some. Choose from healthy menu items like fish and grilled chicken, or dive into comfort foods like a classic angus burger with cheese, onion rings, and french fries. It’s important to note that the concession stand will mostly close after the third showing, with a limited menu for the following two movies. Make sure you grab what you want sooner rather than later. There’s tons to choose from; for a full menu, click here!

“Experiencing a night at the drive-in is so much different than seeing a movie at the local multiplex … it is very much like a tailgate party at a sporting event. When you combine the movies; family & friends, your dog, being able to read, listen to music or play ball or games before the movie; enjoying some great food from our concession stand; sitting under the “stars” or a bright moon; enjoying a true American classic drive-in theatre….. it all makes seeing a movie with us an event that is memorable!”
