Congratulations on your engagement!   I’m sure you are busy with the planning process.   Top priority is reserving the church/venue and photographer which allow you to lock in your wedding date.  Then it’s time to begin thinking about your dress!  Many girls have been thinking about what they will wear on their wedding day long before they had the guy.  Yet, others become a little overwhelmed by all the designer gowns they see in bridal magazines and on The Knot.   So, what’s hot this season?

Lace:  Thanks to the continued influence of Kate Middleton, lace continues to be everywhere.  It is seen in sleeves, sheer illusion necklines, and lace overlays.  Many dresses are all lace with or without the embellishments of pearls or Swarovski crystals.   Lace is truly timeless and versatile, creating a look for everyone.

Portrait Backs:  Every bride loves a beautiful back.  During the ceremony the back of the dress is what everyone is watching.  So why not add a little intrigue with a keyhole back or illusion sheer panel across the back embellished with just the perfect accent of crystals or pearls.  Sexy and sophisticated is this look!

Fabrics:  Besides lace, fabrics tend to be soft and flowing.  Romantic and feminine are the words for this season.  Lots of layers and ruffles prevail as does the more couture, clean lines of simple elegant gowns.

Color:  There is very little white with brides preferring diamond white, ivory, or other shades of champagne, oyster, and pearl.  Also trending are dresses with color.  Blush, silver, and light blue can be seen again this year, as well as gowns in bold reds, blues, and greens.  Accent colors continue to be a popular option in coordinating with the bridesmaids.

Accessories:  Lots of belts!  Matching the gown or in an accent color, girls are looking to add more detail and interest.   Feathers remain popular in hair jewelry, fascinators, and veils.  I am even starting to see more traditional veils with a blusher (my personal favorite!).  Finally, the shoes.  What can I say, anything goes….traditional pumps, peep toes, sandals, flip flops, blue shoes, shoes to match the wedding colors, and even cowboy boots!  It’s all about personalizing your wedding.

Potomac Bridals of Hagerstown Maryland will be presenting a fashion show at the Blue Ridge Bridal Show.  I invite you to come and meet us, see some of the current wedding gown styles, and take advantage of this opportunity to meet other wedding vendors.
