Lasting ten days in August and featuring nearly 30 concerts and concert talks, the Staunton Music Festival attracts over 60 of the finest musicians from across Europe and the U.S. to one of Virginia’s most charming historic communities. Concerts feature chamber and vocal music from the Middle Ages to world premieres in stunning venues throughout downtown Staunton, all within easy and short walk from each other and ample dining and lodging options. The schedule includes free concerts every day at noon and ticketed events each evening, and the SMF has seen increasing number of long-distance visitors who stay for the entire festival experience. Programs range from the grand Midsummer Ball to a period-instrument performance of Bach’s St. John Passion. Known for its daring and eclectic programming, its stunning array of period instruments, and a commitment to some of the world’s most exciting living composers, SMF is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most sought-after summer music experiences on the East Coast. Its ability to create compelling programs that bring together music from different eras and genres has helped SMF grow into one of Staunton’s signature summer events.
