One of the most wonderful exciting times is when a woman hears the words, “Will you marry me?” But once those words have settled in, then reality sets in with wedding couples: “How are we going to celebrate this special event and afford to celebrate it without breaking the bank?”
- Happiness #1 – A marriage needs to start out with finances on the table.
- Reality #1 – – Get Real and Stay Real.
So before you come to the show this Sunday at Millwood Station, here are some venues for you to consider. Some will be at the show for you to have a face to face discussion on your options. Others are partners with us in all the many events we do through out the year. Blue Ridge Bridal Show and Go Blue Ridge Travel are the Shenandoah Valley’s wedding resource guide that will help you.
The wedding reception can consume the major part of your budget so picking a venue wisely should be your number one concern. Reception sites set their costs based on what they are providing for you. The least expensive are the outdoor facilities such as a barn, tented site options. A couple has to have a reality check that venues not offering a ‘weather proof option’ but extremely affordable will fit their dream wedding. Seeing beautiful outdoor pictures is wonderful when the sun is out and it is warm. “I always suggested a bride and groom come to a venue on a bad weather day and make sure if this was their day they would be totally happy. My worst memories as an event planner was seeing not only the bride and groom but the guests freeze to death during a wedding reception.”
Best value locations are those that provide you with the basics for one price such as tables, chairs, sometimes basic linens. These are often restaurants and hotels who own these ammendies and can afford to include these costs in their fees. The hotel sites will often have the most room to negotiate if you are also taking rooms with them.
Extremely desirable wedding venue options offering you the opportunity to be on the property for the weekend of your event but more expensive are the destination resorts, historic manor homes, and bed and breakfasts. One way to make these venues fit your budget is to narrow your guest list – less people – less cost. Also, be flexible on the day of the week. You will be amazed at the price differences.
The major discussion that needs to occur between you and the groom before you talk to anyone else is what you both want your memories to be. This is your wedding as long as you pay for it. Involving your parents then opens the door to their opinions as well.
