Go Blue Ridge Travel’s 2019 Virginia Kids Trail expands, providing activities and experiences from Northern Virginia, Blue Ridge Central Virginia and Shenandoah Valley to Roanoke. Put down the phones and video games and go explore!

What’s the 2019 Virginia Kids Trail?

The NEW 2019 Virginia Kids Trail starts in Winchester, Northern Virginia, and West Virginia. It winds through the Shenandoah Valley from Harrisonburg through Lexington to Roanoke,  and east to Charlottesville and Lynchburg. The trail map guides you to family-friendly attractions. It’s pocket sized and color coded. “Guides” Shenny, Bucket, Ridge, and Fungi will help you find your child’s favorite activities along with campgrounds, hotels, and resorts. 

Summer 2019 VA Kids Trail Activities:

HFAC's LEAP Camp 2019 Virginia Kids TrailHarpers Ferry Adventure Center LEAP Camp: This children’s day camp is based on Learning through Exploration, Adventure and Play. There are outdoor activities in a positive, social learning setting.

Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre “Relaxed Performance”: July 30th SSMT will present “The Sound of Music”. This performance is especially for young theatre goers as well as those with sensory processing disabilities. Purchase tickets online or at  Shenandoah University’s box office.

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival: The music festival and a weekend at Shrine Mont Retreat & Conference Center make for creativity and wellness. Enjoy an outdoor pool, athletic courts, horseshoes, croquet, bocci ball, and hiking trails. And click here for the performance lineup.

New Stops on the Kids Trail:

Capon Springs and Farms: This West Virginia mountain resort has hiking, fishing, swimming, and golf. Its sustainable, eco-friendly farms provide much of the comfort food for guests. On Wednesdays enjoy a soup, salad, and sandwich “lunch with a view” buffet as well as homemade desserts.

Strasburg Museum 2019 Virginia Kids TrailStrasburg Museum: This National Historic Landmark museum showcases antique pottery, Native American artifacts, Colonial and Civil War articles, and a railway caboose too. Admission: $5 adults, $1 teens, and just 50 cents for children.

Wild GUYde Adventures: Ready to explore the great outdoors? Then let Lester R. Zook be your Wild GUYde. Because Lester has 30 years of wilderness experience, he can customize the best hiking, rock climbing, caving and canoeing adventures in small group experiences. Beginners welcome!

Barns at Rose Hill Event 2019 Virginia Kids Trail

Barns of Rose Hill: Music, drama, writing, and art camps are some of the activities at this Berryville performance center. Musical acts, art exhibits and theatre fill the calendar, including Winchester Little Theatre’s Robin Hood.

Bavarian Inn: This Shepherdstown, WV historic inn boasts “European Elegance on the Potomac”. There’s award-winning cuisine, luxury accommodations and many property activities and nearby attractions. The newest amenities feature an infinity pool over the Potomac River and the Brothers Brewery.

Lansdowne Resort: This expansive resort is near Loudoun County’s Virginia Wine Region. Of course you and the kids will keep busy hiking, biking, golfing, swimming, and playing tennis. And they’ll want to check out the Explorers Club. In other words, take a break from mom and dad.

Popular Destinations on the Kids Trail

Many of the experiences on the Virginia Kids Trail are free or at least easy on the wallet.  For example, hike trails at Loudoun and Maryland Heights and Woodstock Tower. Take in history at Jefferson Rock and Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. Visit dairy farm life at Mt. Crawford Creamery.
