Discover the Skyline Drive - Virginia - one hour trip from Washington DC and Northern Virginia
Take in a breath of fresh air. A trip along the Virginia Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains can take a day, or can be expanded into a full vacation with hiking, camping, exploring, and best of all leaving a virtual world behind and tuning in to Mother Earth. It’s back to nature.
Follow Route 340 from Jefferson County - Harpers Ferry thru Berryville to crossing over Route 7 and Route 50 to Front Royal where you can being the Skyline Drive or you can continue on 340 to Luray and Elkton. Up on the mountain or along the winding Shenandoah river, all is geared to getting up close and personal with fresh water, trees, rocks, and the unbelievable vistas. Stay in a rustic cabin or a well appointed bed and breakfast. The locals thrive on making you feel at home.
Comfort food and small town hospitality will make you want to come again and again to get to know every nook and cranny. There is plenty to explore. The wonders of nature are especially fascinating underground. Caves and caverns exhibit fantastic wonderlands full of other worldly shapes and spaces.
Make a local festival the highlight of your visit. Every small town has at least one celebrating old time music, local history, and culture.
And don’t forget to come back every season. Catch the glory of the fall leaves, ski the slopes in the winter, examine the wildflowers and migrating birds in the spring, and go all out in the summer with tubing, horseback riding, golf, or just taking in the scenery.
